The funny thing about Brian Droitcour’s take-down of post-internet art is that many of the artists making the work he was condemning are the kind of artist whose entire practice could be swayed by a well-articulated opinion from a youthful, savy critic.

I have always supported kids discovering poetry and making it their own. I have always supported informal writing and writing in vernacular. I have always supported writing that is conscious of the digital realm and the cultural climate it is being released into. I have always supported small publishing endeavors. I have always supported like-minded artists coming together for their mutual benefit.
I will never support catty, internet-enabled passive-aggression. I will never support the fetishization of mental illness in the name of “art.” I will never support writers disregarding an entire pre-existing canon of literature because it does not align with the standards and practices of their current aesthetic niche. I will never support aspiring artists packaging themselves in a box. I will never support otherwise talented and promising writers that emulate a specific style to the point of arresting their own literary development.

Submissions for Sus Poetry 01 are now open!
Sus Poetry is seeking writing that is indebted to vernacular, informed by the internet, or just plain weird/experimental. In terms of art think .gifs, .pngs, iPhone photos, or some wild shit you made on blender. Or if you make “objects” send documentation.
Submit up to 5 pieces and a short bio to firstname.lastname@example.org
